Scottish Karting Academy Launches Mechanics Classes for Adults, Families and the Wider Community
The Scottish Karting Academy is introducing a new programme of Mechanics Classes, designed to make mechanical skills accessible, practical and enjoyable for adults, families, fun karters and those exploring motorsport or engineering career pathways. Or just to simply have fun in their community.
The classes will provide hands-on experience in a supportive, community-focused environment, helping participants understand how karts work, how to maintain them safely and how mechanical knowledge supports performance both on and off the track.
Open to:
- Adults and parents
- Families learning together
- Recreational and fun karters
- Individuals with a community or career interest in mechanics
- The sessions are structured to suit different experience levels, from complete beginners to those already involved in karting or motorsport.
- What Participants Will Learn
- Mechanics classes will cover practical skills such as:
- Basic kart setup and maintenance
- Engine awareness and fault finding
- Safety checks and preparation
- Understanding how mechanical changes affect performance
- Tools, workshop practice and good habits
- Sessions will be delivered through:
- Small group workshops
- Family-friendly learning sessions
- Supported learning for those needing additional guidance
- More Than Just Mechanics
- The programme is about more than mechanical skills. It supports:
- Confidence and problem-solving
- Family involvement in motorsport
- Community learning and volunteering pathways
- Awareness of engineering and technical career options
For some participants, the classes may simply be a fun way to better understand their kart or support a family member who races. For others, they provide an introduction to real-world mechanical and engineering skills that can lead into further training, education or employment pathways.
Building Community Skills Through Motorsport
The mechanics classes align with the Scottish Karting Academy’s wider mission to use motorsport as a tool for skills development, inclusion and community engagement. By opening workshops to a broad audience, the Academy aims to break down barriers and make motorsport knowledge accessible to all.
The Academy is currently welcoming expressions of interest to help shape class formats, timings and progression routes.
Anyone interested in taking part, supporting sessions or finding out more is encouraged to contact the Academy via the website or social media channels.
Building skills. Supporting families. Strengthening the motorsport community.
